They Made a Silver Medal Splash! The girls from the Aquacades Coral Springs Synchronized Swimming Team won a silver medal at the age group Nationals Championship 2010 in Tonawanda, N.Y. Parkland resident Diane Schofield recently published a self-help book on stress called The Stress Rescue - Your Guide to Stressless Living.

The American Cancer Society expects over 5,000 Striders at their 2010 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk! The funds raised Oct. 23 at Mizner Park Amphitheatre in Boca Raton will help support research, education & patient services in the So. Palm Beach Area. Parkland Powerhouse was this year’s Top Team Winner for the 2010 Autism Speaks Walk, raising over $35,000! Bobby Valentine took the time out to celebrate birthdays at Bobby V’s Sports Gallery Café with two of his fans, Sky Mercede, Sr., formerly of Stamford, CT and his son, Sky Mercede, II who were in town visiting from Parkland. Sky Sr. & Sky II were born on the same day, July 3. It was a very special day for Sky II since he turned 13 & has been a longtime fan of Bobby V.

On June 24 members of the Parkland Woman’s Club met at Jamie’s Country Stitches in CS to participate in the ONE MILLION Pillowcase Challenge—“Make a pillowcase-Make a difference.” They made 10+ pillowcases (and plan to make more) which they’ll donate to 18-year-old teens who are leaving foster care & going out on their own. Participants included: Christina B.; Cindy Grabelsky, Pres; Adrienne Monas, Art Program Chair; Pamela Whitmore, Communications/Publications; Charlotte DeLeu, Membership; Candy Hickman, Treasurer & Debby Beck, Membership Co-chair.


Parkland resident Hardy Johnson, President of Tarmac America in Florida was recognized with the Hicklin Award for Lifetime Achievement by the Florida Concrete & Products Assoc. He’s pictured with Outgoing Chairman Bernardo Dias.


The recent “Scouts for Troops” Walk was a service project organized by Parkland Troop #10417 to earn the prestigious Bronze Award. Over 100 people attended along with 15 Girl Scout troops & raised $800 to send supplies to US Military troops stationed in Iraq. Archbishop John Clement Favalora recently met with St. Andrew Catholic School’s 5th grade class at the Cathedral of St. Mary in Miami following the Mass of Chrism. St. Andrew student Mariana Nava of Coral Springs (pictured behind the Archbishop on the left) was among the Catholic school students who encouraged the priests with their essays about the importance of their vocations.
