At 27, with financial help from her mother and a second mortgage on her home, Mindi and husband Hank opened their publishing company. Nine magazines followed, some that were the darling of the talk show circuit in the 90s with the latest three being Parkland Life Magazine covering “life” in Parkland and Coral Springs, Coconut Creek Life, in cooperation with the city, who sought out Rudan for her commitment to community and BocaDelray Life celebrating an equally sophisticated lifestyle . Modeled after many of the country’s great regionals, the Rudans always joke that while “Life Magazines may not win a Pulitzer, to them it doesn’t matter.” The magazines triumph the true successes in “life.”
“Our magazines herald the communities we serve and bring cohesiveness to both reader and the business community. Information people need to know about local government—yet also showcasing the winner of the local spelling bee. We cover local life—much of which would not be highlighted by mainstream publications--and in so doing re-invent the ‘fun-fair’ theory over and over again. LIFE Magazines bring awareness and attention to dozens of ‘little’ triumphs that add to the fabric of this community every day. We connect the consumer to the business owner in a very personal way not usually offered. And we ‘pay it forward’ each and every month by using our ‘voice’ to promote the wonderful endeavors of our vibrant community.”
Acknowledged with an “Up & Comer” award by South Florida Magazine as a publishing entrepreneur; by Women in Communications, as 2007 Small Business Person of the Year and just this year as one of South Florida’s Top 100 Small Businesses (#59) and by dozens of charities and civic organizations for their company’s on-going contributions, their magazines have donated thousands of dollars in space to nearly every non-profit who simply, asks. With a Life Magazines Birthday Bash—attended by over 2,000 people each year—over $150,000 in funds have been given directly to many local organizations. The Rudan’s Life Publications is a happy company that lives by the “you reap what you sow,” theory of doing business.

Through Mindi’s dedication to the community, and Executive Director Joyce Karney’s dedication to the Alzheimer’s Family Center, a friendship between the two women was born. And even our staff members feel like we personally know Joyce through the respect and adoration in which Mindi often speaks of her. And that’s why it’s our great pleasure to announce the Alzheimer’s Family Center’s “A Celebration of Life” Black Tie Dinner & Auction Gala, Saturday, March 6 at the Woodlands Country Club (4600 Woodlands Blvd., Tamarac) and invite you to be there too. This Gala serves as a major fundraiser in support of the valuable programs and services that the center provides to countless families caring for someone suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders. This elegant evening is simply amazing. Like a Platinum wedding, it features a cocktail reception wonderful for meeting and mingling (and getting the inside track on all those amazing prizes). Then it continues with festive sit-down dining, dancing, silent and live auctions, and of course, a special tribute to Life Magazines’ publishers, Mindi and Hank Rudan. Admission is $175 per person, $1,400 for a table of eight, and $1,750 for a table of ten. For information on underwriting partnerships, program advertising, general event info or to purchase tickets, call the Alzheimer’s Family Center at 954.971.7155 or e-mail Joyce Karney at alzfam@bellsouth.net. Join us for the wonderful cause this benefits, the immeasurable business opps it provides and the fun, that is well, priceless!
